Ridding Global Waters of Microplastics: #beadfree

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Husband and wife team Dr. Marcus Eriksen and Anna Cummins co-founded The 5 Gyres Institute, an organization dedicated to stopping plastic pollution. 5 Gyres has sailed over 50,000 miles across the world’s oceans with hundreds of diverse ambassadors, studying the global impact of plastic and working to drive solutions on land. 5 Gyres’ research in the Great Lakes uncovered the issue of plastic microbeads in the US, and launched a 3-year collaborative campaign to ban the sale of microbeads, culminating in a Federal Bill in 2015.

Anna and Marcus will give an overview of their findings, illustrated by a number of unique artifacts from the 5 Gyres, vast oceanic regions that concentrate debris. They will also share a hands on demo highlighting microbeads, and engage participants in concrete actions they can take to reduce their plastic footprint, and get involved.

This is a bonus activity. Sign up for this class on top of your four activities per day! All are welcome.
